Yes, you can buy an electric dirt bike online and be happy with it. What you cannot do is ride it first. So the homework has to stand in for the test ride: your inseam against the seat, the price with freight added, and what a return would actually cost you in dollars.
This is a bigger deal for an adult electric off-road motorcycle than for a kids' pit bike. Most 50 mph class bikes land somewhere near 140 lb. They run 60V or 72V packs. And they show up on a freight truck, boxed, often left at the end of your driveway. Our support inbox sees the same handful of questions every week from people deciding between an EM-5 Pro and a Sur-Ron, and this list grew out of those emails.
The 10 Minute Checklist Before You Pay
Go down the table once per bike. If a seller can't answer a row, email them before you order, not after.

Fit Comes Before Watts
Watts are fun to compare. Fit is boring, and it is the thing people regret.
Seat height against your inseam, in boots
Measure your inseam wearing the boots you'll ride in. Then look at the numbers. Our EM-5 has a 28.3 in seat; the EM-5 Pro adult electric dirt bike and the Ultra are both 31.5 in. That gap of about three inches decides whether you're flat footed or on your toes when the trail leans. Nobody needs both feet down to ride well. You do need a foot that reaches when you stall halfway up something.
Weight you can manage with the motor off
Nobody notices weight at 30 mph. You notice it shoving the bike backward out of a rut, or pushing it up a truck ramp at 6 pm with a flat battery. The EM-5 weighs 126 lb net. The Pro is 143. And add your gear: plenty of 80 kg riders are closer to 90 once boots, pads and a hydration pack go on. The Pro's limit is 287 lb.
|
Try this before ordering Find any motorcycle near your size at a local shop and just sit on it. Brand doesn't matter. Five minutes there will tell you more about 31.5 inches than any photo. |
Read the Spec Sheet Like a Test Ride
Read numbers in pairs. A peak figure on its own says little about a 20 minute climb; the rated figure is what the motor holds.

Torque is the number to stare at if you ride Colorado switchbacks, where you'll be restarting on loose stuff. Our bikes use geared motors. Gearing multiplies force at low rpm. That's why the Pro's 177 lb-ft pulls harder on a crawl than its watt rating hints. Range is a ceiling, not a promise: the Pro's 59 miles will shrink on a 100 degree afternoon outside Phoenix with lots of hard launches. When you want everything on one screen, compare the full electric dirt bike lineup.
Price the Delivered Bike, Not the Banner
The FTC tells online shoppers to work out the total cost of a product with shipping, handling and tax included. On a motorcycle that list gets longer:
• Freight. Free at some stores. At others, residential delivery and a liftgate are extra.
• Gear. Goggles, gloves and boots, plus a helmet with the DOT FMVSS No. 218 label on the back. Expect a few hundred dollars, more if you buy decent boots.
• Setup. Not doing it yourself? Call a local shop for a quote first. Some won't touch online bikes.
• Return freight. Almost nobody prices this. It is usually the most expensive line.
|
Do the return math now Our own example: Valtinsu charges $200 return freight on dirt bike models, or $350 on the EM-5 Pro and EM-23, for non-quality returns. Ride it first and there's a 20% restocking fee on top. On a $1,700 bike that is about $340 plus freight. Wherever you shop, open the return policy and do that same sum. Sale items can have their own rules, so look for that line. |
Vet the Seller Before You Trust the Bike
Great bike, bad seller. It happens, and it's worse than the reverse. We'd check four things.
1. Warranty by component. A single "1 year" line hides a lot. Our warranty terms give 12 months on the frame, battery, motor and controller, 6 months on the display, and nothing on tires, pads or chains.
2. Parts you can order today. Look for brake levers, throttles and chargers with their own pages, like our parts and accessories catalog. This replacement parts checklist lists the questions worth asking.
3. A real support answer. Send one technical question. Rear shock travel works well. So does charger voltage. A pasted template reply is an answer too.
4. Recall history. Type the brand into the CPSC recall database. Takes a minute.
Use a credit card if you can. According to the FTC, card buyers can dispute a charge for goods that never arrive or arrive broken, and a seller that promises no date still has to ship within 30 days.
Know Where You Can Ride Before It Ships
These are off-road machines. Not street legal. On federal land the BLM says every off-highway vehicle has to follow state rules, registration included where a state asks for it. Pick the first place you'll actually ride, whether that's a friend's ranch or an OHV park like Hollister Hills or Bootleg Canyon, before the truck shows up.
Delivery Day: The First Hour Decides a Lot
The Pro ships in a 55.5 x 13.8 x 25.2 in carton at 161 lb. Get a second person.
1. Before the straps come off, take photos of all six sides and the shipping label.
2. Leave the foam and cardboard in the garage until you have ridden it.
3. Welds first, then the battery case (any bulge is a stop). Then both brake levers. Soft lever? Call before riding.
4. Charger label: 67.2V for the 60V Pro, 84V for the 72V Ultra. Anything else is the wrong charger.
5. Bolt torque? Get it from the model-specific user manuals, never a forum thread.
|
Deadline to remember Damage windows are short. We ask for photos or video within 14 days of receipt. Do the walk around on day one while the box is still there. |
First ride: an empty field, lowest mode, ten minutes. That matches NHTSA advice to learn a new or unfamiliar motorcycle somewhere controlled before anything harder.
Conclusion
No test ride? Then do the homework that replaces one. Seat height against your inseam. Weight you can push. A price that includes freight and a possible return. A warranty you have read line by line, plus parts you know you can order. Once that is done, go look at Valtinsu electric dirt bikes and run each one through the table at the top.
FAQs
Can you buy dirt bikes online?
Yes, and most arrive by freight whether you buy from the brand, a dealer or a marketplace. The harder part is picking who you buy from. Look for return costs in dollars, warranty periods per part and parts listed by model. One technical email before ordering tells you plenty.
How much does an electric dirt bike cost?
Entry and youth bikes start around $1,000 to $1,600. Serious adult race bikes go from about $3,500 to past $7,000. We sit in between on purpose. Whatever the sticker says, add freight, tax, gear and the return cost before comparing two of them.
What electric dirt bike can reach 50 mph for adults?
Quite a few now. Ours: the EM-5 Pro at 52 mph and the EM-5 Ultra at 56, both on hydraulic discs with an adjustable air shock at the rear. A 100 kg rider on a cold morning in soft sand won't see 56. We'd pick on brakes and fit first.
What is the best website to buy an electric dirt bike?
Whichever one makes life after checkout easiest. Brand stores put warranty and parts under one roof. Dealers are handy for setup and side by side comparisons. On a marketplace, the listing price might win, but find out who you'd email when a controller dies.
Can I buy a motorcycle online and have it delivered?
Yes. Expect a freight truck and, often, curbside only, so the 161 lb box may sit in the driveway. Line up a friend. Take photos of the carton before a single strap is cut, because some damage claims close after 14 days.
Which electric dirt bike brand is the best?
There isn't one answer. Sur-Ron has the deepest aftermarket, a race history and good resale. Talaria owners are a big, helpful crowd. We put the money into stock hardware like geared motors and rear air suspension. Go with whoever's parts and support you can reach.
Is it a good idea to buy a bike online?
Usually, if you have done the research. Online gives you more models and often lower prices than a showroom. Fit is the gamble. Our advice is boring: measure, price the return, and sit on a similar bike somewhere local.
What is the cheapest way to buy a dirt bike?
Count the first year, not the sticker. If the cheap bike needs new brakes and a shock by July, it wasn't cheap. Used can be cheaper still. Battery wear and half finished mods can wipe that out.
